The Impact of the Green Economy Transition on Indonesia's Economy, Equity and Prosperity

Category : Economy

According to the findings of the Center of Economics and Law Studies (CELIOS) and Greenpeace Indonesia in the Policy Brief: The Impact of the Green Economy Transition on Indonesia's Economy, Equity, and Prosperity, the transition to a green economy is estimated to increase national economic output by up to IDR 4,376 trillion. In addition, this change is also projected to increase gross domestic product (GDP) by IDR 2,943 trillion in the next decade, which is equivalent to 14.3% of Indonesia's GDP in 2024. The multiplier effect of the green economy on GDP goes far beyond the current economic structure which is still dominated by extractive industry sectors such as mining.

The study also provides various recommendations for relevant ministries and agencies in implementing the transition to a green economy. Some of these recommendations include the establishment of a Green State Budget (APBN Hijau), the provision of a green economy stimulus policy package, and the implementation of a loss and damage fund.
