Festival Tumpek Wariga 2024, Preserving Harmony between Human and Nature

BALI, KOMPAS.com - Smesco Indonesia collaborated with the Earth-Centered Economy Coalition (KEM) to organize the 2024 Tumpak Wariga Festival.

The collaboration was carried out as an effort to promote local commodities to grow a sustainable economy. Leonard Theosabrata, President Director of Smesco Indonesia, said that strengthening local commodities can also have an impact on the economy in the regions which will be stronger. "The micro-processing method of local commodities can be an economic strengthening factor in each region," said President Director of Smesco Indonesia Leonard in his statement, Tuesday (6/2/2024). Leonard also revealed that the development of local commodities needs to be balanced with the availability of the processing industry. With this concept, local labor and investment can be absorbed properly. "So there is no need to sacrifice the environment and socio-cultural damage that can occur due to over-investment or over-exploitation from their respective regions," Leonard said. According to him, the collaboration between Smesco and KEM also strengthens cooperation in the development of various natural resource-based sectors such as agroforestry.

On the same occasion, Head of the Java, Bali, Nusa Tenggara Climate Change Control Center of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Haryo Pambudi also emphasized the importance of sustainable commodity management, one of which is through environmental utilization. "In the context of climate change adaptation and mitigation, the benefits of forests have so far only focused on carbon, whereas there are still many things that we can develop access to on an international scale besides carbon utilization," Haryo said. The 2024 Tumpek Wariga Festival is a platform to combine three important pillars to realize harmony between humans and nature, namely related to the spiritual Tumpek Wariga, scientific and technological advances that support conservation, and humans as economic beings through sustainable business practices. The series of festival activities include talk shows and workshops on the first day at SMESCO Hub Timur, followed by forest exploration and commodity tracking on the second day at the West Bali Learning Forest. On the third day, participants will be invited to tour the production center of Conservana, a company that promotes community-based sustainable forest management.
